The street children of kinshasa: a documentary that puts the streetchildren phenomenon in the context of the current state of the Democratic Republic of congo.
Street children can be seen in all poor nations of the world, but their numbers have been rising exponentially in the DRC due to several factors. The alarm must be sounded now than ever, as this crisis threaten to derail any devlopment plan for the future of the DRC.
This documentary has been pre-screened and received high marks by selected groups of people.
Issues covered in the documentary include:

  • Shelter: Where they sleep, how they keep dry during the winter nights: how they hide away from the police and criminals,
  • Drug use: Why they use, how they feel on drugs, what they do on drugs
  • Sex & Child prostitution: Gang rapes, what type of people pick them up and abuse them
  • Food: Where they eat, what their daily diet consists of, how they get food
  • How they ended up on the street: Individual stories about their downward journey onto the streets and the life they ran away from.
  • Health: How they deal with sickness, general children’s health issues, beating.

The objectives of the documentary include:

  1. Creating a public awareness of the extent of the ‘Street Children’ problem
  2. Suggesting ways in which the public can become proactive
  3. Create on-going fund-raising opportunities Street Children Organizations’
  4. Launch series of short documentary that will deal with social and injustice issues in society
